As the holiday season draws ever so nearer, many of us have already planned our annual leaves to spend as much time with our family as possible. Whether the plan is to go on a luxurious destination to an exotic location, or to spend time in the living room, as long as you are with the people you love most in the world, you don’t need anything else to make this holiday season as magical as possible.

Wait, perhaps there is a way, and Netflix is providing it as long as you are subscribed to the service. Our research tells us that some films and TV shows are releasing on Netflix this week which you must watch, essentially because they are high-quality productions which bring magic to the screen and will help you avoid any serious family conversations by entertaining people of all ages.

Learn About the Oceans with Blue Planet II

If you have already seen Planet Earth and its sequel, Planet Earth II, then you must’ve realized that the award-winning show does not place a lot of emphasis on the life present in the oceans. This is because our oceans are an entirely different ballgame, and contain thousands of species which deserve to have a separate show in order to give them adequate attention.

Well, Sir David Attenborough has recognized that need as well, and what we have now is Blue Planet II which has hit Netflix at the start of this week. This is a sequel to Blue Planet, as you must’ve figured out already. With Hans Zimmer music and gorgeous footage of the ocean, this is one show you simply cannot miss.

Visit the District 9

Netflix released on Tuesday the amazing multiple Oscar-nominated film District 9, and even though it is a science fiction film and usually films in this genre are set in the future, this one is set in 1982. The storyline revolves around the coming of an alien ship in South Africa and how they are rounded up at placed inside internment camps by the government (obviously). Rotten Tomatoes gave the film a rating of 90%, so you know it is a must watch.

However, the kids might find some of the alien faces to be a bit scary, so viewer discretion is definitely advised with this one.

Happy

This TV show is a dark comedy and tells the story of a former detective-turned-hitman, played by Christopher Meloni, who suffers from a heart attack and, after waking up, starts to see a peculiar small cartoon-like unicorn with wings.

What he later realizes is that the creature he has began to see all of a sudden actually came from the imagination of a little girl, who made this unicorn her imaginary friend.

The TV show Nailed It! Is returning with a Holiday Version

On December 7th, Netflix plans on releasing the holiday version of its hit food competition, called Nailed It! Holiday! Participants of the food competition, amateur bakers mostly, will compete for a chance to win a whooping $10,000. Somebody’s holidays are about to become very sweet indeed!

Dumplin is the Cutest Film Ever

Although there might be some bias in our recommendation considering we are huge Jennifer Aniston fans, but Dumplin has a lot of entertainment to offer for the entire family.

The story is based on a namesake novel and revolves around the character of Willowdean whose mother was once a beauty queen and, as a way of protest, she enters into the same beauty pageant herself. Now we don’t know what Willowdean is protesting, but we’ll have to watch the film to find out now won’t we?

Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle

We know what you are thinking, and no this is not connected to the Jungle Book. Instead, Mowgli is based on stories written by Rudyard Kipling, and has been directed by Andy Serkis.

The film obviously has amazing graphics, but the fact that A-list Hollywood stars like Benedict Cumberbatch, Naomie Harris, Christian Bale, and Cate Blanchett have lent their voices to this production makes it one of the must-watch films on Netflix at the moment.

The film releases on Netflix this Friday.
