Linda Hunt, originally named Lydia Susanna Hunt, stands out as a remarkable talent in American cinema and theater. Her acting career kicked off with her role as Mrs. Oxheart in the movie Popeye, but it was on stage that she first made a significant impact. Initially aspiring to direct, Hunt soon found her true passion in acting. She debuted in the theater world with a notable performance in the Long Wharf Theatre’s 1972 production of Hamlet, and just a few years later, she graced Broadway in Eugene O’Neill’s Ah, Wilderness! in 1975. Hunt’s stage repertoire further included her acclaimed role in the off-off-Broadway piece A Metamorphosis in Miniature in 1982. After her Oscar win, Hunt’s filmography expanded with standout roles in Dune (1984), Silverado (1985), Kindergarten Cop (1990), and voice roles in the animated films Pocahontas (1995) and Pocahontas II: Journey to a New World (1998). On television, she has been a staple, starring in series like The Practice (1997-2002), Space Rangers (1993-1994), and earning critical praise and multiple awards for her role as Hetty Lange in NCIS: Los Angeles (2009-2023).
