California raised Tiffani Amber Thiessen is the epitome of an American girl. She starred in pop culture mainstays ‘Beverly Hills, 90210’, and ‘Saved By The Bell’. Her ‘girl next door’ appearance made her every boy’s crush. Tiffani secured a starring role in ‘White Collar’ which was a defining part of her career. Tony Danza – 69

Tony Danza was a defining pop culture icon of the 80’s. Star of ‘Who’s The Boss’, the very forward thinking show revolved around a man helping around the house of a businesswoman. It received critical acclaim for its take on modernity and witty dialogue. And of course, Tony being such a looker definitely helped solidify the show’s place in history. It was in 1988 that Danza also received a People’s Choice Award for Favourite Male Performer for his role in The Tony Danza Show, a 1997 sitcom. Between 2004 and 2006 he had a daytime talk show by the same name.
Rene Russo – 66

Gorgeous Rene Russo was the star of many big Hollywood films such as ‘Nightcrawler’, ‘The Thomas Crown Affair’, and ‘Lethal weapon’ to name a few. Mysteriously, the star decided to leave the industry for more than 6 years and had no acting credits to her name from 2005 onwards. She announced her grand comeback via ‘Thor’ when she played the role of Frigga, Thor’s mother. No one really knows why she took such a long break, but whatever it was for, we sure do hope she enjoyed it!

If you grew up watching ‘Saturday Night Live’, there is no doubt that you’d be familiar with Dana Carvey. He was featured in multiple sketches, some notable ones with him depicting the Church Lady and former president George Bush. Regrettably, Carvey distanced from the industry due to health issues which stemmed from his doctor making a mistake during a heart bypass surgery for a blocked coronary artery. Carvey sued the doctor in a multi-million dollar lawsuit and donated the proceedings to charity and since then, Carvey has gone off the grid!
Joe Pesci – 77

There are little films as culturally defining as ‘Home Alone’, which featured Joe Pesci as the iconic vandal. Besides that, Pesci has also starred in a number of films, but his defining role was definitely as Harry Lime in the aforementioned film. Somewhere along the lines, Pesci left Hollywood in order to pursue singing as a career, but he fell off the industry entirely and barely made any appearances anymore. Carter won Miss World United States 1972, and she finished as a semi-finalist in the Miss World 1972 pageant. She has maintained her looks despite being in her late 60’s and still remains best-known for her performance as Wonder Woman
Linda Kozlowski – 62

Linda Kozlowski gain infamy for her controversial scene in ‘Crocodile Dundee’ in the 80’s. She prevailed however and rose to fame due to her impeccable figure and starred in a variety of movies in the 90’s. Blockbuster films such as ‘Village of the Damned’ and ‘Backstreet Justice’ featured her in a leading role. The following decades weren’t as kind to her as her acting career slowed down and she retired for a more peaceful life with husband Paul Hogan. She later divorced Paul and settled down with her business partner.
Mike Myers – 57

His debut was in 1992 with Wayne’s World – we are talking about the star of ‘Austin Powers’, and we bet many of you didn’t know this lovable actor also voiced Shrek. Mike Myers gained a cult following the movie and was offered the leading role in ‘The Love Guru’, a film of 2008 that Myers co-wrote and co-produced as well. Sadly, the film received atrocious reviews, and Myers hasn’t received any leading roles since. Myers landed supporting roles in the 2018 films Bohemian Rhapsody and Terminal and boasts a net worth of $175 million as of 2019.

Ted Danson was a part of our formative years as Sam Malone in ‘Cheers’. The series had an 11-year run and Danson received several nominations for Golden Globes and Emmys. Danson was even awarded a star of his own on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Kate Jackson was amongst the most popular actress in the 80’s. She is mostly known for her role as Sabrina Duncan in cult TV series ‘Charlie’s Angels’, but she was let go by the producers out of nowhere. Duncan then acted in some notable TV series, such as ‘Criminal Minds’ and ‘Sabrina the Teenage Witch’. Some would say she moved on to greener pastures! In 2010, it was announced by Gallery Books that they had a contract with Jackson for her to publish her memoirs. The book has been delayed continuously, with the latest reschedule date being two days before 2021.
Kelly LeBrock – 60

Kelly Lebrock was the dream girl of every teen boy in the 80’s, with looks that would turn heads wherever she was. Her debut role in ‘Weird Science’ helped her earn recognition with producers. Sadly, after her divorce from Steven Seagal, Kelly got mixed up with drug addiction which led to her early retirement. She has seen many marriages and divorces – her first husband was film producer Victor Drai, who she wed in 1984 and divorced in 1986. The in 1987, she married Steven Seagal, with whom she had three kids. She divorced Segal in 1994 and married Fred Steck, only to divorce him in 2008.
Kim Novak – 87

Kim Novak was a genuine star in the 50’s when she acted in ‘Middle of the Night’ and Hitchcock directed ‘Vertigo’. Kim also had the opportunity to work with Frank Sinatra and Kirk Douglas during their peak! After a 3 decade long career, she retired in the 90’s, signing off with the movie ‘Liebestraum’. In 2010, Novak was diagnosed with breast cancer and her manager, Sue Cameron, announced the news. Fortunately, Novak made a full recovery and was declared cancer-free after the completion of her treatment. Luckily, she will be spending the rest of her days in comfort as she has roughly $15 million to her name.
Ann-Margret Olsson – 79

Ann-Margret Olsson is a Swedish native who relocated to the United States in 1946. Her resume as an actress is extremely respectable, starring in films like ‘Bye Bye Birdie’ and ‘Viva Las Vegas’. Over the course of her career, Ann-Margret has won a total of 5 Golden Globes and built up a net worth of $20 million. There were even rumours that she had a relationship with Elvis Presley whom she was filming ‘Viva Las Vegas’ with. In 2016, he returned to donning the eyepatch figuratively, when he voiced Robin for the animated films, and again in 2017. Janis Paige – 97

JJanis Paige possesses the voice of a siren, which she has put to good use! Her first appearance was on Broadway’s ‘Remains to Be Seen’ and following that was ‘The Pajama Game’. The latter rocketed her to star status, and was ceremoniously acknowledged with a star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame! Sadly, her vocal chords were damaged in 2001, marking the end of her singing career. She went to a voice clinic to have her voice mended, but it was Bruce Eckstut who ultimately helped her regain it. But with Hollywood money, she managed to secure the best therapist available and managed to get better!
Cicely Tyson – 95

Cicely Tyson has etched her mark in history with her performances on films like ‘Sounder’, ‘The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman’, and many others. Cicely remained somewhat active in her later years, appearing in ‘The Help’ in 2011! Cicely is a pioneer to feminists, as her strong portrayal of independent women made her a role model during less socially aware times. She has even received a Presidential Medal of Freedom, which was presented by President Barack Obama in 2016 and doesn’t seem to have aged a day!

While Marsha Hunt has appeared in films such as ‘Pride and Prejudice’ and ‘Born To The West’, she never really became an A-List celebrity. Nehemiah Persoff – 101

One of the few Palestine-born actors, Nehemiah was reasonably popular back in the 50’s and 60’s. His first credited role was in 1956’s The Harder They Fall. It was his decline in health that reduced his acting workload and when his workload decreased he spent more time on painting, specialing in watercolour art. Since his retirement from the industry in 1999, Nehemiah has taken up painting full-time as he closes in on the big 100. He lives in California with his wife and four children.
Marge Champion – 101

Marge Champion has been part of the entertainment industry since her adolescence. At 12, she was already a ballet instructor! Eventually she signed a contract with Walt Disney, and her dancing prowess was animated in film such as ‘Fantasia’ and ‘Pinocchio’. Her talent in dancing landed her multiple roles alongside stars of the era. She eventually decided that the highlife of the film industry wasn’t her thing, leading to her retiring and pursuing her passion for dancing thoroughly. Her last appearance as an actress was in 1982’s Fame, in which she acted as a ballet teacher with a racial bias.

A living legend from Hollywood’s Golden Era, Micheline spent most of her career in France, which is her birth country. Carleton Carpenter – 94

A modern renaissance man, Carleton Carpenter built a considerable amount of recognition over his career. Starting off with Broadway plays, Carleton acted and also took on the challenge of being a magician. The most successful of them being ‘Three Little Words’ where he had the opportunity to act alongside Debbie Reynolds. Irene Papas is amongst the best actresses Greece has ever produced. She belonged to a family of artistic passion, as her father was a drama teacher. Acting as a career is probably the easiest decision she had to make. Irene typically starred as heroines from Greek plays, but she gained worldwide attention for her role on ‘Zorba the Greek’, starring along with Anthony Quinn. Some of her other notable films include ‘The Guns of Navarone’ and ‘The Trojan Woman’ which featured Katherine Hepburn. She last acted in 2003, in A Talking Picture.

The Lois Lane to Superman, Phyllis Coates was the woman every girl wanted to be in the 50’s. She had her start in the industry as a comedian and dancer in skits until her life changed when she landed her defining role in 1951 on the classic TV series ‘The Adventures of Superman’. Her performance made her a household name in the industry for a brief amount of time. She of course reprised her role in movie ‘Superman and the Mole Man’. Coates has a daughter with jazz pianist Robert Nelms, her second husband, and a son with director Norman Tokar, her third husband, and finally another daughter with her fourth husband, Dr. Howard Press.
William Daniels – 93

While retired nowadays – mostly, William Daniels is still recognizable to many of the younger folks. His 5-/episode guest appearance on Grey’s Anatomy is but a small part of his very illustrious career. William starred in ‘St Elsewhere’ which won him multiple Emmy Awards, and also ‘Boy Meets World’ which as most 90’s kids would know was decade defining. He also served as the Screen Actors Guild chairman from 1999 to 2001, along with his wife since 1951, Bonnie Bartlett. The couple adopted two sons together, named Michael and Robert, who have now grown and have careers of their own.
Peter Mark Richman – 93

Another iconic actor from the 50’s, Peter Mark Richman appeared on the silver screens mostly as Marc Richman. He has been active in the industry for 4 decades, appearing in over 130 TV series and over 30 films since the 1950s, only retiring recently. His most recent credits as an actor are for After the Wizard and Mysteria which were released in 2011.The star of ‘The Dynasty’, and ‘Electra Woman and Dyna Girl’, Peter has been married to his lifelong love Helen Richman since 1963. They raised a son, Lucas Richman who is a star in his own right, having won a Grammy award as a conductor.
Pat Carroll – 93

Pat Carroll had the opportunity to appear in several critically acclaimed TV series’, such as ‘Laverne & Shirley’, ‘The Danny Thomas Show’, ‘ER’, and others. Funnily you would recognize her better for her voice than her face. Carroll voice Ursula in Disney’s ‘The Little Mermaid’ and has also done voice acting for many video games – and of course as Ursula to those involving her. Over her career, Carroll has received an Emmy, a Grammy, and was also nominated for a Tony award. She last acted in BFFs in 2014, as ‘Joan’.
Michael Constantine – 93

Michael Constantine’s family made their way to the United States as did many Greek nationals when the country was in shambles after WW1. Constantine has numerous credits to his name, most prominently for his role as Seymour Kaufman in ‘Room 222’. Although, his most notable appearance came in ‘My Big Fat Greek Wedding’ in 2002. He took on the role again in the films sequel in 2016 at the ripe age of 89! He was married to Julianna McCarthy between the years 1953 and 1969, and he had two children with her.
Gina Lollobrigida – 93

Another beauty hailing from Europe, Gina Lollobrigida complements a long line of female role models consisting of Sofia Loren and Brigitte Bardot. This Italian bombshell rose to prominent as an actress and is a big supporter of Italian-American film ventures. When her career in film slowed down, she established two other careers – one as a sculptor and another as a photojournalist. Gina isn’t just looks, as she has a heart of gold as well. In 2013 she sold her jewelry collection valued at around $5 million and donated all of it to stem cell research facilities!
L.Q. Jones – 93

While L.Q. Jones rarely ever took on starring roles, every Batman needs a Robin which was Jones’s prowess in the industry. Jones made his debut in 1955, in Battle Cry. In the film, he developed a liking for the name of the character he portrayed, ‘L. Q. Jones’, which he then took on as his professional name. Amongst Jones’s acting credits, the most notable of them was his appearance in ‘The Wild Bunch’. The now 91-year-old actor also acted in iconic films such as ‘The Casino’, and even directed, produced, and wrote the cult film ‘A Boy And His Dog’
Rosemary Harris – 92

Born in 1927, Rosemary Harris attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic art which culminated in her appearing debuting in Broadway in the 50’s. Throughout her career, Harris has received many accolades ranging from Emmy’s to Golden Globes. In 2007, she took away a Gotham Award for the Best ensemble cast for the film Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead. She also received a Lifetime Achievement in Theatre Tony Award in 2019. She even received an Academy Award nomination for her performance in 1994’s ‘Tom & Viv’. Despite being 92 – and a stacked checking account to boot, she still hasn’t retired!
Lee Grant – 94

Another prolific actor of the 50’s, Lee Grant managed to secure an Oscar nomination on her debut in 1951’s ‘Detective Story’! Unfortunately, her career suffered rough times after being included in the infamous Hollywood blacklist. She made a big comeback in the 60’s and snagged an Academy Award for her performance in 1975’s ‘Shampoo’. Throughout her impressive career, Grant was nominated for a total of 7 Emmys and secured 2 of them! After an absence of over 40 years, Grant returned to the stage to star in The Gin Game, which is part of a benefit for Island Music Guild improvement programs.
